Shadows of the Rift
Barthal
Barthal (bar-THAL) is the Lord of Justice, the god of law and protection.
Barthal is one of the Later Gods of the Midron pantheon, birthed of the elements rather than the First Gods. His church is dedicated to the protection of the weak and innocent and the enforcement of the law for the betterment of all.
Relationships
Barthal is a respected and feared among the gods, being one of the most powerful—and strident— of their number. He is a staunch defender of what is good and right and finds himself often in conflict with Lady Morria and Lord Nekras.
It was Barthal that gave humankind the gift of law and of order. He continues to be active in their lives through the actions of his paladins and clergy.
Appearances and Emissaries
Barthal appears as a large man with long golden hair and a short-cropped beard. He is decked out in gleaming gold full-plate armor and wields a shining longsword (“Lawbringer”). His eyes area shining blue and gleam with the light of his zeal.
Worship of Barthal
Barthal expects his followers to uphold the highest standards of truth, purity, and of justice. They are defenders of the weak. Protectors of the innocent. The hands of the Law.
Worshipers and Clergy
The nobility, knights, magistrates, and paladins tend to be worshipers of Barthal.
Barthal’s church is served by both priests and by paladins (see Midron Religions Titles and Ranks). Clergy wear red robes with black trim, while paladins wear similar tunics with the symbol of the balance emblazoned on the front.
Temples and Shrines
Temples to Barthal are often fortresses dedicated to the defense of a region. They are also gathering places for the people in times of emergency. They are usually stately and well-designed, dedicated to the best in all humankind.
Obediences
