Vandar (VAN-dar) is the Lord Binder, the god of oaths, trade, and contracts.

Vandar is one of the Later Gods of the Midron pantheon, birthed of the elements rather than the First Gods. His worship is dedicated to maintaining society through the oaths of its adherents, binding people to their word, and punishing oath-breakers.

Relationships

Vandar is a very influential god in the pantheon, often called to arbitrate conflicts between the gods and to witness compacts between them.

It is through the work of Vandar that society and law are able to flourish, for what is civilization but the binding of social contracts for better living?

Appearances and Emissaries

Vandar appears as a large man with a bushy black beard and piercing grey eyes. He wears simple cloths and bands of gold on his wrists.

Worship of Vandar

The bond formed by oaths, contracts, and compacts are sacred and never to be trifled with or broken. These are the bonds of civil society, and without them we have nothing but anarchy.

Many people seek the blessing of Vandar to be spoken over a contract or in conjunction with an oath to lend it a degree of importance and severity.

Worshipers and Clergy

Merchants and nobility are often drawn to the worship of Vandar

Clergy devoted to Vandar wear simple robes and bands of gold upon their wrists, in imitation of their deity.

Temples and Shrines

Temples to Vandar are usually grand civic structures, doubling as halls of records for the various contracts signed in the city. Priests are often called upon to witness the taking of oaths or the signing of contracts.

Obediences

Certain followers of Vandar participate in daily rituals in order to secure special blessings. Take 4 concentric rings—large enough to fit on the wrist. As you place each one on, make an oath to yourself regarding how you will live for the day—something you will do, something you will say, etc. Gain a +4 sacred or profane bonus (your choice) to Appraise, Diplomacy, Intimidate, and Sense Motive checks. Gain an Aura of Truth: Acts as the Zone of Truth spell emanating from the subject at a 10’ radius. Save is Will vs. DC 15.
