Simaeas (si-MAY-us) is the Lord of Scrolls, the Keeper of Knowledge, and the Protector of the Word.

Simaeas is one of the Later Gods of the Midron pantheon, birthed of the elements rather than the First Gods. His church is highly venerated for its scholarship and contributions to the collected knowledge of the known world.

Relationships

Simaeas is the scribe of the gods, recording their deeds on his sacred Scrolls, as well as the deeds of demi-gods and heroes. In this, he often stands apart from both gods and humanity, observing their antics with an impassive eye. It was Simaeas who gifted humanity with the art of writing.

Appearances and Emissaries

Simaeas appears as an older man with a long, graying beard and sharp, hawkish features. He wears the robes of a scribe and is never seen without a tome or a scroll in hand.

Worship of Simaeas

The Lord of Scrolls encourages his followers to have a healthy respect for knowledge and the word, regardless of its source. Knowledge of both good and evil is necessary to fully understand either. Writing and knowledge is sacred and to be protected.

Followers of Simaeas often recite their prayers each sunrise or sunset.

Worshipers and Clergy

Simaeas accepts the worship of all who would venerate knowledge. As a result, he is often the chosen deity of wizards and sages, as well as scribes.

The clergy in service to Simaeas wear blue robes, trimmed in gold with sacred sigils embroidered upon the trim.

Temples and Shrines

Temples to Simaeas are centers of learning, populated by many scriptoriums and libraries. These areas are often private, open only to priests and to those that can donate resources to the institution.

Obediences

Certain followers of the Lord of Scrolls partake of daily rituals to ensure his special blessings. Take a piece of parchment and write whatever flows into your head. Empty your head of useless thought and clutter so that it may be filled with knowledge. Use the writing to inspire, remember, decompress your thoughts. Gain a +4 inspiration bonus on all Knowledge checks. Treat all knowledge skills as if ranked. Gain a +2 inspiration bonus to Concentration, Use Magic Device, and Spellcraft checks.
