Campaign of the Month: September 2018
Shadows of the Rift
Sabreel
Sabreel (sah-BREEL), is the most unpredictable of all the Midron deities: unpredictable, capricious, and quite mad.
Sabreel is primarily associated with madness and nightmares.
History
Sabreel is one of the oldest of the Midron deities, said to have been birthed by Fate itself to drive the creation of the world. As such, his church is venerable and secure in the various Midron lands of Zaldara. However, due to the somewhat whimsical nature of his followers, the church is not particularly powerful and usually only called upon by the capricious or for mercy by those that are afflicted.
Relationships
Sabreel is a child of Fate and the brother of Xuxia, Goddess of Lust, Ithya (Goddess of Inspiration), Davran (God of Love and Beauty), Ramala (Goddess of Chance), Cereth (Goddess of Light), and Modthras (God of Darkness).
Sabreel’s nature often puts him at odds with the other gods—many times for no discernible reason. Further, when he allies himself to another, one must often wonder for purpose his alignment truly serves. No one trusts him—and for good reason.
Appearances and Emissaries
Sabreel appears as a man with short, dark hair and golden eyes with a smiling, yet haggard expression. He also sometimes appears in dreams as a crow with golden eyes.
Worship of Sabreel
The dream is madness. Madness, dream. The so-called “insane” merely tap into the power of Sabreel’s realm, seeing what can be or should be rather than drab reality. There is power and glory in looking beyond the mundane.
Followers and clergy of Sabreel pray before drifting into sleep or into trance, hoping to glimpse the realm of dreams.
Worshipers and Clergy
Sabreel will accept the worship of all who enter his realm.
Priests and clerics of Sabreel will wear black robes, trimmed in midnight blue.
Temples and Shrines
Temples and shrines to Sabreel tend to double as both sanctuaries and opium dens, where many come to use various herbs and beverages to induce a dream-like state, to enter the realm of madness where the god lies.
Holidays
The worshipers of Sabreel hold no one day holier than another. They generally look upon any opportunity to expand their perceptions into dream as a holy and sacred time.
Obediences
Certain devout followers of Sabreel perform daily rituals in order to secure the Mad God’s favor. First, enter a trance-like state of altered consciousness—use black lotus root if it will help. Enter the land of dreams and altered perceptions. Contemplate what you see there, try to derive meaning from un-meaning, un-meaning from meaning. Gain a +4 sacred or profane (your choice) bonus to all Knowledge, Sense Motive, and Perception checks. Treat all Knowledge skills as if ranked.
