A city at the mouth of the Winter River in Eacenia. Its citizens attribute its prosperity to its devotion to the god Barthal, whose paladins serve as the city’s militia. It is also the site of a holy shrine to one of the fallen heroes of that faith.

Government

The town of Riverton is ruled by its Elder Council, the chief officer of which is the Lord Mayor. The Council is elected by the men of the town every ten years. The current Lord Mayor is Lord Aeld Ebonthorne.

The Lord Chancellor presides over the city’s bureaucracy. This bureaucracy is devoted primarily to the maintenance of the town treasury and the collection of taxes. The Lord Chancellor is also the keeper of all the town’s records.

The Lord Magistrate presides over the city’s court system.

The city’s militia is provided and maintained by the temple of Barthal. The militia is tasked with protecting the city from “outside” threats while the constabulary maintains internal order.

The Lord Constable enforces the Council’s laws through his lesser constables.

The Rivermaster presides over the town’s river harbor watch and collects duties and tariffs in the Council’s name.

Points of Interest

The Shrine to Wygulf Darkbane lies near the heart of the city on a small island in the river mouth. Darkbane was a paladin of Barthal who was born in Riverton four centuries ago. Darkbane is said to have slain all manner of demons, devils, and dragons in his long and prestigious career. Followers of Barthal travel from across the known world to see the shrine dedicated to their cause.

The roads in Riverton feature the Bridgering Road, a large round road that rings the central part of the city and features two large bridges that cross the Winter River at two points.

The Harbormaster Headquarters for the city is an engineering marvel that bridges the Winter River, allowing the river to flow beneath it while also housing a series of steel portcullises and gates that can be used to cut off access to the river should the need arise.
