The High Citizen appoints all of the major positions in the city save those of the clergy. The High Citizen directly presides over the city’s bureaucracy. This bureaucracy is devoted primarily to the maintenance of the city treasury and the collection of taxes.
The Keeper of the Word heads the defense of the inner keep and is the keeper of all the city’s records.
The Keeper of the Law presides over the city’s court system. He or she appoints lesser magistrates for each of the city’s districts.
The Keeper of the Peace presides over the city’s militia and is responsible for the local enforcement of the law.
The Keeper of the Waves presides over the city’s dock watch and collects duties and tariffs in the name of the High Citizen.
Points of Interest
Orielle is known for its location near one of the few navigable passes between the dwarven holdings of Hadurk-Sur and the Elven lands. This pass, known as Anvilrock Pass, is part of the lands held by the dwarven Thane Thraxas Blackhammer.
The city is also home to a large temple to the Elven deity Eltheriel which serves as a center of learning for the city.
