Campaign of the Month: September 2018
Shadows of the Rift
Nekras
Nekras (NECK-rahs) is the Lord of Night, the god of the Undead and dark magic.
Nekras is one of the Later Gods of the Midron pantheon, birthed of the elements rather than the First Gods. His worship is dedicated to the perpetuation of evil, darkness, and the perversion of life.
Relationships
Nekras is a powerful and influential deity in the pantheon, though he often comes into conflict with the forces of good and light. It has also been said that he has had romantic relationships with Sylene at various points in history.
Nekras is fairly dismissive of humanity as a power, preferring that they bow and scrape to him a superior being. He will use them in his manipulations against the worship of other gods and as vessels of his dark powers to mock the powers of light and good.
Appearances and Emissaries
Nekras appears as a thin, almost skeletal man with pale skin and black hair. His eyes glow with a faint green light. He is wrapped in a dark, sepulchral, shroud.
Worship of Nekras
Power is the primary goal of followers of Nekras. He grants his dark magics to those that prove worthy of his night-born powers. Un-life, a mockery of the life that the forces of good hold dear, is a tool for power.
Worshipers and Clergy
Necromancers and other dark magic users are drawn to the worship of Nekras and his promise of power.
Clergy devoted to Nekras, when in relative secrecy and safety, wear dark wrappings and use the sign of the Pentagram as a warning and sigil. They do not advertise their presence in society.
Temples and Shrines
Temples to Nekras are isolated and secret affairs, hidden in remote places away from prying eyes.
Obediences
Certain devout followers of Nekras perform a daily ritual to secure his special blessing. In a secluded place, preferably in darkness, take a blade of obsidian and draw a bit of blood, examining the contrast of the life and death on the edge of a blade. Gain a +4 profane bonus vs. Good-aligned spells and spell effects. Gain a +4 profane bonus to Knowledge (planes) checks and treat the skill as ranked if unranked.
