Campaign of the Month: September 2018
Shadows of the Rift
Kartal
Kartal (car-TALL) is the Lady of the Hunt, the goddess of hunting, the wild places, and survival.
Kartal is one of the Later Gods of the Midron pantheon, birthed of the elements rather than the First Gods. A powerful but aloof deity, her church is small but popular within its narrow sphere of influence.
Relationships
Kartal is the mother of Syl, Lady of the Trees, by her some-time lover Lord Torth. She is seldom in opposition to the other gods due to her tendency to leave Elysium for hunts.
The fey hold a special place in Kartal’s heart, as they come closest to revering nature in the same manner as she.
Kartal herself is equally aloof from humankind, though is quick to anger if seen in the world and not given proper respect.
Appearances and Emissaries
Kartal appears as a woman with short blonde hair in rustic, hunter’s garb carrying a masterwork shortbow called “Preystiller”. She is also known to bathe in pure streams and to frequent sacred groves.
Worship of Kartal
The Hunt is the greatest expression of humanity’s many strength. Do not over-hunt a region and take only what is needed. Preserve the wild spaces, for they are sacred. Do not be wasteful of resources, for they are a gift from the gods.
Followers of Kartal often pray outdoors, away from the trappings of civilization.
Worshipers and Clergy
Worshipers of Kartal tend to be woodsmen, hunters, Rangers, and Druids.
The Clergy dress in hunter’s garb, usually with a moss green tunic and the symbol of their faith.
Temples and Shrines
There are few temples to Kartal—mostly her worship is confined to small, woodland shrines that are scattered throughout the wilderness. Often these are found in sacred groves or near natural pools and streams.
Holy Days
During the period of the full moon in the month of Ardor, a great hunt is usually called by local followers of Kartal.
Obediences
Certain devout followers of the Lady of the Hunt perform daily rituals in order to receive a special blessing. If you can’t actually go on a hunt, which is the best way to get closer to the Lady, then contemplate nature in a grove, pure-running stream, or similar setting. Gain a +4 sacred bonus to Perception, Survival, Handle Animal, and Stealth checks. Gain an animal companion for a day (see Animal Companions). The animal companion will be a level equal to 1/2 your character level.
