Jolus (JO-lus) is the Lady of the Shadows, a goddess of rogues and trickery and of luck.

Jolus is one of the Later Gods of the Midron pantheon, birthed of the elements rather than the First Gods. Her church is devoted to much that is held sacred by the rogues of the world: trickery, charm, luck, and guile.

Relationships

Jolus is the lovable rogue of the gods, often interrupting their schemes with pranks and schemes of her own. Though her many tricks often gain her the momentary enmity of her fellows, she often has the ability to charm herself out of trouble—not always, but often. She dislikes the gods that have devoted themselves to destruction and conflict (especially Kysk) and often focuses her pranks on them.

Jolus loves humanity in its varied forms. She is known to often visit the material realm to interact with her charges directly.

Appearances and Emissaries

Jolus appears as an attractive, if diminutive female with brown hair and twinkling grey eyes. She is often dressed as a bard or in the light armor of a rogue and carries a multitude of daggers upon her person.

Worship of Jolus

Leading the charge is all well and good, but sometimes guile is needed. To strike from the shadows is not dishonorable—it is simply smart. Sometimes folks need to be taken down a notch, shown that the world is not always what it seems. The truth is not always found in the light—but in shadow.

Worshipers and Clergy

Jolus is the favored deity of the rogue classes of Midron lands: thieves, bards, actors, etc.

Clergy that have devoted themselves to Jolus wear the black disk upon their person.

Temples and Shrines

There are no temples to Jolus, per se. Shrines are often erected within thieves’ guildhalls, as are personal shrines by individuals. Clergy advance by deeds of daring and guile, not by the size of their “flocks”.

Obediences

Certain devoted followers of Jolus perform a daily ritual to ingratiate themselves to the Lady of Shadows and gain her special blessing. Practice a special trick with a black disc and your Sleight of Hand (DC 10) to sharpen the mind. Gain a +4 luck bonus to Stealth, Sleight of Hand, Perception, and Disable Device checks.
