Government
The city of Jenna is ruled by its Lord Mayor. The post is usually appointed by special election of all landed individuals within the city’s confines. The current Lord Mayor is Lord Baird Belthun.
The Lord Mayor appoints all of the major positions in the city save those of the clergy.
The Lord Exchequer presides over the city’s bureaucracy. This bureaucracy is devoted primarily to the maintenance of the city treasury and the collection of taxes. The Lord Exchequer is also the keeper of all the city’s records.
The Lord High Magistrate presides over the city’s court system. He appoints lesser magistrates for each of the city’s districts.
The Captain of the Guard presides over the city’s militia and local enforcement of the Lord Mayor’s law.
The Harbormaster presides over the city’s harbor watch and collects duties and tariffs in the Lord Mayor’s name.
Points of Interest
The Blue Palace, seat of the Eacenian government, resides in the center of the city atop Wulfgar’s Hill. It is named not for its exterior (which is simple worked stone), but for its interior—the throne room, specifically.
Across from the Palace, on the adjacent Scribner’s Hill, is the University of Jenna, one of the shining beacons of learning throughout the known world.
Within the city are temples devoted to every good deity of the Midron pantheon. Of particular interest is the Fortress of the Grand Marshal, the primary seat of the the religion of Barthal, Lord of Justice.
The city’s perimeter is formed by a road known as the “shield way” for its shape, which is much like a shield.
Also in Jenna is the Cathedral Radiant, the primary temple of the religion of Cereth.
