The capital city of Borael lies to the far south of the country, near the border with Yulania where the Hadurk River and the Inavina River meet.

The city is named for a great obsidian gate that was gifted to the city by the nation of Hadurk-Sur.

Money Changing

Money may be exchanged for any denomination for a fee of 2%. This fee may be avoided by holding membership in a bank or a trade guild.

Government

The city of Ebongate is ruled by its Baron or Baroness. The post is usually inherited by the first born of the previous Baron of House Marat, who is related directly to the Crown. The current Baron is Lady Breya Marat, Baroness of Ebongate.

The Baroness appoints all of the major positions in the city save those of the clergy.

The Lord Exchequer presides over the city’s bureaucracy. This bureaucracy is devoted primarily to the maintenance of the city treasury and the collection of taxes.

The High Magistrate presides over the city’s court system. He appoints lesser magistrates for each of the city’s districts.

The Lord of the Watch presides over the city’s militia and local enforcement of the Baroness’ law.

The Lord of the Harbor presides over the city’s harbor watch and collects duties and tariffs in the Baroness’ name.

The Lord Herald heads the defense of the inner keep and is the keeper of all the city’s records.

Points of Interest

The Queen, Beatrix Marat, holds court at the Iron Throne of Borael in the Palace Marat.

The Baroness, Breya Marat, holds court in the Palace of Ebongate, also referred to as “The Lower Palace”, located nearby to the Palace Marat. Here are all the branches of the city government based. The west wing is an administrative wing, while the east wing is the royal residence.

The University of Borael sits on an adjacent hill near the city center.

The famous Ebongate, a gift of the dwarves of Hadurk-Sur, serves as the city’s western entrance by land.

The Street of Scrolls is known for being a haven of sorcerers and wizards plying their trades.

The Street of Ravens is home to Viridian Manor, home to the Viscount Ghoulsbane, a local hero and raconteur.

The House of Rest, a sanitarium, is run out of a former inn in one of the more run-down districts of the city. It’s administrator, Saer Redmantle is a devotee of Cereth.

The Ebon Market deals in various contraband goods, including drugs, poisons, human (and demi-human) trafficking, and dark magicks. It is located on the Riverfront in the holds of various boats that participate.
